Fourth of July Fun in Carrboro!

DSC08812

Yesterday I had the pleasure of celebrating the 4th of July in Carrboro. The festivities started out with live music on the lawn in Front of Weaver Street Market. Afterward a small “people’s” parade lead everyone down to a kids fun zone set up by the Town Hall Commons. There were kids games, bouncy houses, food vendors, live music, clogging dancers etc.My favorite was the clogging (pictured above). Here are a few more of my pictures from the celebration yesterday!

Live music on the lawn in Front of Weaver Street Market. Always a great place to hang out with the family and pets. Large trees provide ample shade and there is space to set up chairs in addition to tables to sit and eat food and drinks you can get from of the the market.

A huge kids fun zone was set up in the Town Hall Commons area. This is where the Carrboro Farmer’s Market usually takes place each Saturday. Lots of games, food, and music to enjoy.

There were tons of families with younger children and it definitely appeared to be a pet friendly event since I spotted a lot of happy dogs. As I walked around I came across this neat little setup of large chalkboards for children to draw patriotic pictures and messages.

DSC08798

My favorite carnival game, know by some as the “High Striker” was there. This is the the one where you swing a large hammer to get the bell on top of the poll to ring. This was a popular “feat of strength” for the kids.

I didn’t get a chance to try it, but I noticed the Tar Heel creamery was out there selling their locally made ice cream. With the hot weather this was a popular food truck yesterday!

The Gravy Boys were playing the main stage during my visit. People brought their own chairs to relax and enjoy the show in the shade of a perfectly placed large tree.

I really enjoyed spending my 4th of July in Carrboro yesterday. It isn’t the biggest event in the area,  but it was the perfect size for a town the size of Carrboro. Local residents really seem get into it and bring out their patriotic spirit and have a good time. You can read more about the types of activities at the event on the Carrboro 4th of July Celebration website.
