Logan Trading Company Festival of the Arts: 11am-4pm
This is a free art show at the plant nursery featuring all kinds of local art including 2D, 3D, performing, musical and more.

Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo: 4-9pm
This is the third large rodeo along Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh. Over 70 trucks expected. Visit the website to view the trucks. Make a list of the ones you want to visit and get there early to avoid the lines!

Weekend Picks! June 21-23rd

As we head into the first official weekend of Summer there are lots of fun things to check out. Including a few very unique events like Kirby Dirby on Saturday and Yoga at Raleigh Brewing Co. Sunday.  But first, the weekend kicks off with a pop-up ice cream shop and beer/wine store celebrating their grand openings tonight!

Friday June 21st

Ice Cream Pop-Up Shop in Downtown Raleigh Grand Opening!
Thanks to an announcement by New Raleigh, I learned of a  pop-up ice cream shop that is opening tonight in downtown Raleigh. The temporary shop will be located on Wilmington Street in the space next to Gravy where Kindred used to be. This space is only temporary (through August 31) after which they hope to open in a permanent location. They will start out serving locally made Maple View Ice Cream. Doors open for the very first time tonight (Friday June 21st) at 6pm

Wine 101 Raleigh Location Grand Opening!
Wine 101 in Wake Forest is opening up a second store this weekend with a new Raleigh location. Their new shop is located on Duraleigh Road and Raleigh and will offer an expansive collection of both wine and craft beer. The soft openening is this Friday, June 21st from 12-8. They will also have a very special tasting (cost $10) to raise money for “Meals On Wheels” from 5-7.

Saturday June 22nd

Kirby Dirby “Wonderland”
Kirby Derby Day is an annual day of Raleigh awesomeness on a Saturday close to the Summer Solstice.
It begins at 4pm and lasts a long time. Events include:pine car mini-racers at 4pm, parade at 5:30, “drag” races at 6:00ish, soapbox derby at 6:30ish and an after party at darkish featuring music by Corn & the Colonels! Food trucks: The Humble Pig & Captain Poncho’s Tacos and Hot Dogs and Veggie Dogs by Silas.

Wake County Animal Center – Adopt an Addition
Come celebrate our third annual Adopt an Addition event here at the Animal Center. We will have adoption specials on all the adoptable animals, live music, rescue partners with adoptable animals, “Not Just Icing” cupcake truck for your sweet tooth, vendors and raffle items. The event will run from 11am until 6pm. Come on out and meet your new family member!

Peak City Pig Fest – Apex
A free, day long event in Historic Downtown Apex. Activities begin at 9:00 am, music begins at 11:00 am. Beer Garden open from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. A KCBS sanctioned barbecue cookoff held in Historic Downtown Apex, NC. Presented by the Apex Sunrise Rotary Club.

Carolina Brewing Company Big Bash
On Saturday stop by Carolina Brewing Company in Holly Springs for food, live music and delicious beer as they hold a “Big Bash Celebration” complete with food trucks and live music. This is a kid-friendly event. Food Trucks and Ice Cream Truck will be on hand. Music by “Live Centre”  playing their timeless Classic Rock tunes. CBC and food trucks will be donating a portion of all sales to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.Come out and drink your favorite pint. Stay for the music and food.

Sunday June 23rd

Yoga at Raleigh Brewing Company
Raleigh brewing Company is starting a yoga series to take place at the Brewery every other Sunday starting this Sunday. Yoga at the Brewery will offer an all levels Vinyasa based flow that will build on itself throughout the 4 weeks. The goal is to create an individualized practice that you can take home and enjoy. Join in for breath, movement, and deep stretches designed to make you relax and feel limber from head to toe. Afterwards, stick around for a post yoga brew from Raleigh Brewing Company’s incredible selection!

Weekend Picks! June 14-16

Lots of fun things going on this weekend. From live music in Raleigh to New Belgium Beer’s Tour De Fat bike parade and mini-carnival in Durham. Don’t forget to hit the Father’s Day food truck Rodeo or stop by the Ornamentea Pop-Up Sunday Market to support the Wake County SPCA through a “Puppy Hug-a-thon”.

Music on The Porch – Raleigh
Happening each 2nd Friday night (Rain or Shine) from late April to the end of October, the porch hosts live music from 7:00 to 9:30pm, and kid’s activities begin at 6:00pm. This week’s event features live music by E-train and the Rusted Rails

Art After Hours in Wake Forest
It’s the second Friday, and that means it’s time to head down to Downtown Wake Forest for an evening of family entertainment, food, and to see what the local merchants (your neighbors) have on offer.

The event brings out a good crowd of folks, and tonight’s cooler temperatures are a nice excuse to get out and walk around.

New Belgium Tour De Fat
New Belgium’s Tour de Fat is coming back to Durham’s American Tobacco Campus!  Grab your friends, decorate yourselves and your bike and come on out for a great time!  Bike Parade begins at 11, with registration beginning at 10am to get signed in. The parade will last about an hour and then the festival (revival) will begin with great music, skits, bike pit and great beer selections from New Belgium!  All proceeds from the event  benefit local charities.

Durham Food Truck Rodeo
The Father’s Day Durham Food Truck Rodeo scheduled is the biggest Triangle Food Truck Rodeo to date. There will be 62 food trucks there along with Mudbones Blues Review performing on the the Lawn and DJ PiddiPat  spinning records at the Leaf. Pop-Up Sunday at Ornamentea
POP-UP Sunday is a monthly event that gives local businesses, artists and the community a chance to mingle. It’s not just art or antiques or food trucks, it’s a handpicked mix of all that and more! This Sunday’s event is particularly special as it will help raise money for the SPCA of Wake County with a Puppy Hug-a-thon. For a $5 donation you can get 10 minutes of puppy hugs. The event food truck is Chick-N-Que, and beer will be available for donations.

The theme of this weekend’s picks is coffee and food! Starting with celebration of the 1st Anniversary of Raleigh’s own Slingshot Coffee on Friday and wrapping up with a massive Food Truck Rodeo on Sunday. See below for all my picks of places and events to check out this weekend!

Slingshot Coffee Anniversary Party at Oak City Cycling
Slingshot Coffee (Cold Brew Coffee made right here in Raleigh) is one year old this month and celebrating June’s First Friday birthday-style with their roommates Oak City Cycling Project. Swing by for a special new Slingshot Cold Brew cocktail (or two), tasty beer and food from Captain Ponchos… even a pinata or two.  To top it all off, they’ll have birthday cupcakes and The Parlour ice cream bus! Stop by to say hello, have some good drinks, some good sweets, some good fun.

The Hills to Holly Water Music Arts Tour
Special thanks to Kim over at Triangle Localista for sharing news about this fun event! The Hills To Holy Water Music Arts Tour is bringing local NC flavor and entertainment to Moore Square in downtown Raleigh. Join them for an afternoon in the park to support NC Catch fisheries, local farms and breweries and help raise money for Nourish International and the NC Coastal Federation. Menu items include a good ‘ol fashioned fish fry, steamed clams, an assortment of delectable seafood plates and cold craft beer. So bring a blanket and a chair and big appetites for NC Fresh Catch: Fresh Seafood, Fresh Music, Fresh Beer, Fresh Art. This is an all ages, kid friendly show.

Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo – 50+ Trucks!
Downtown Raleigh is set to host it’s second large scale Food Truck Rodeo to date this Sunday. This time there will be even more trucks with over 50 food trucks lined up single file along Fayetteville Street. There will also be beer and coffee for sale, in addition seating. There is sure to be a crowd, so get there early and avoid the long lines!

Decatur Street  Dixieland Band at Papa Mojo’s Road House
The Decatur Street Beat Dixieland Band has played foot stomping; toe tapping, New Orleans style Dixieland music since 2004. The group is made up of experienced Dixieland musicians, Dick Sloane – trombone, Keith Longmire – clarinet and saxophone, Mike Acquesta – banjo, and Irv Eisen – tuba. They bring to central North Carolina and the world what they feel is the happiest and liveliest music and you can’t help but feel their enthusiasm and love for the sounds of Decatur Street in New Orleans.

Chow down for a great cause! Bring your friends, bring your dogs, and enjoy the company of fellow animal lovers.  Enjoy fare from local Triangle food trucks, live music from ROCKSHOW, and a children’s play area. Confirmed food trucks include: Chirba Chirba Dumpling, Klausie’s Pizza, Captain Ponchos Tacos, Chick-N-Que and Porchetta. Rebus Works Food Truck Rodeo & Gouge Wrestling
Free family fun event! The food trucks have offered to donate some of their profit to help pay for wrestling and the rest will go towards The Saturday Market. Not a rasslin fan? How about great food truck food (There will be 8 local food trucks), cold beer (including beer from several local breweries) and a nice spring evening outdoors. Maybe check out some really cool art at Rebus as well.

9th Annual Beaver Queen Pageant
The Beaver Queen Pageant is a family-friendly event with lots to charm the younger spectators, as well as the older ones. Bring a picnic, blanket, and chairs, and cheer on your favorite contestants! The pre-show entertainment begins at 4pm at Duke Park, and the pageant kicks off at 5pm with the parade featuring this year’s contestants. This year’s theme is “The Big Beaver Revival”. The contestants’ talents will dazzle you! Their costumes will amaze you! You never know what to expect from our crafty beavers.Proceeds from the pageant go to the Ellerbee Creek Watershed Association.

Sunday June 2nd

Raleigh 70.3 Ironman
This will be the first half-IronMan event held in Raleigh. The event features over 2,000 competitors starting off with a 1.2 mile swim at Jordan Lake, followed by a 56 mile bike course going through Chatham County and Wake County before entering downtown Raleigh where a 13.1 mile run course will take athletes to the finish on Fayetteville Street. Check out the event website for the various course maps and head on out to cheer on the competitors!
