Things are going to get a lot more colorful in Raleigh this Fall and I’m not talking about the leaves on the trees changing color! A cool new 5K race called Color Me Rad Raleigh is coming to the Triangle for the very first time on October 27th out by the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion in Raleigh. I love running 5K races, but this one is a little different than your typical race. Color Me Rad Raleigh provides a unique way to experience a 5k with your friends and family all the while helping to raise funds to benefit the Special Olympics of NC. Check out the video below with clips from past races to catch a glimpse of colorful craziness that happens.
As you can see, Color Me Rad is no ordinary 5K! In it runners are bombarded with a rainbow of colors (colored corn starch) at various color stations along the running route. According to their website, the race includes “a tsunami of color that’ll make colored tears of joy run down your cheeks and will renew your will to live”. I don’t know about your will to live, but this race certainly looks like a lot of fun to me! You can view the course map with the location of the various color stations here.

This race sounds like such a blast! And it is for a great cause! I’d love to win!
I love to run! It’s fun by itself, so getting doused in colors can only make it better. Plus the race is on my birthday so it would make for an awesome birthday experience.
Hey, congrats on winning the other entry for the 5K! Good luck & happy (way early) birthday!
This race looks like a ton of fun. I’ve had a very depressing year but reading about Color Me Rad makes me smile. I hope I can get some friends to join me.
I ran a similar run in Philly with my family. I would LOVE to be a part of this event in my HOME CITY!!! To say that this is going to be fun is a *HUGE* understatement!! And this will be a great way to kickoff my birthday weekend!!!
Looks like so much fun!! And for a fabulous cause!
I’ve been wanting to run a 5K this fall, and this one looks like such fun! Winning this would definitely make me want to run more in preparation for Color me Rad! (and even if I don’t win, I still might register π
PS: found your blog from twitter! Following you there as well
Color Me Rad would be an excellent experience to share with my daughter who Loves to Run!
I might be nuts for even leaving a comment but I just started running in an effort to get off my duff and this would be serious motivation to keep going π
I love running in general but it’s hard to find new types of runs. My best friends daughter saw this and wanted to do it, so we want to get a group to run with her daughter! Her first race ever and it will the absolute most fun she will have!
I voted for this race to come to Raleigh!! I’m so happy to see it will be here and look forward to celebrating with a run in the first race in Raleigh with my daughter!
Such a great cause! I was thinking of signing my family of five up for some healthy fun. We can’t possibly pay for the five of us, so we’re hoping you could help us teach our kids about a healthy life choices. I think this race might get our sports-challenged daughter a bit more interested in running and making better choices in life, what fitness she does and what she eats. Thanks!
I am so excited for this 5k. It is going to be my first one and for such a great cause. It’s going to be so much fun!!
I love to run because it’s the only time I have for myself. No one calling my name, no one fighting, no one whining, no chores that need to be done…
i hope i win!! i am dying to do the run but cannot afford it. I love running because of how i feel after the run. Its great exercise and it allows me to think:)
This is going to be my first 5k! I have been looking for a reason to start exercising, and now I’ve found it!
My wife and I want to run this 5K, so having help with the registration fee would be very helpful!
My life has been blessed by extraordinary color-color that came when my 4th child was born with a little something extra, an extra 21st chromosome (Down syndrome). I am running this race because my daughter, who has colored my life, has found joy, acceptance, and accomplishment through the Special Olympics. What a fabulous way to support a great cause. All 6 of us will be running with a team of friends who color our lives.
I would like to participate in this run because it will benefit the Special Olympics! This is my first run/race (I’ve only done 3K Walks before), and I am excited to participate for a good cause!
Actually, I’ve always hated running. I swore up and down that I would never run and I thought people were crazy who did it for fun. Well, I’ve recently wanting to exercise more, and I heard about this color run and it peaked my interest! It sounds like so much fun! I almost registered for it, but then chickened out. I would love to win this registration, give myself a reason to train, and finally combat this hatred/fear I have of running!
What an awesome event, and for such a great cause! We are huge fans of the olympic games, espically track and feild! My sons birthday is on this very day and I thought it would be such a cool birthday gift to him to come and watch his mama run this wonderfully colorful event!
Would like to run and this seems like the perfect combination of fun and workout to start it!
Because this will be my first 5K!
I love running in a 5k because it motivates me to get to the gym! I also would love to do this run because I am an artist who loves color (www.playfulprints.com) and I would like to be a human canvas!
A whole group of us are coming out to run the race for fun, and I’m definitely the slowest of the bunch…so I don’t plan on winning the race, but it would be super cool to win free registration! π
I want to run this race so I can be covered in paint and joy with hundreds of Raleigh runners. I’m not into mud but color could be my thing!
What a unique way to support such a great cause! I did my first mud run in the spring, a color run with no obstacles sounds like a great way to wrap up the year!
I hope my calf can heal up so I can run in this. Looks awesome!
I can’t wait to do this race! I was going to do the one in Philly but I got laid off and soon after I moved to the Raleigh area. I just assumed that the deadline for the race here had passed. I am pleased to know it hasn’t. With all the colors I am sure it will be lots of fun. I really don’t like to run but I do. Races like this keeps me motivated.
Thanks for all the entries everyone! I randomly selected the two winners last night and have contacted them by email. So if you were one of the winners you should have heard from me by now. Thanks again for following my blog and helping to spread the word about this fun race!
John
Congratulations to Meredith & Scott for each winning a Free Registration for the Color Me Rad 5K Race in Raleigh on 10/27. I hope you both have a great race!
John
Thanks for the opportunity, John. Congratulations, Meredith and Scott! Enjoy the race!
Thank Katie! I appreciate you entering the contest & thanks for checking out my blog. π
Hi! I was wondering what percent of the money raised goes to Special Olympics? Thanks!!
Leigh, I contacted the folks at Color Me Rad about your question and this is the response they provided me. I hope this helps!
Our partnership with Special Olympics helps them raise funds in three ways:
1. Special Olympics organizes volunteers to help with the run and we donate $100 for each volunteer.
2. Through their member and contributed network, Special Olympics can raise funds through distribution of a promo code which when entered at checkout donates 20% off that runners registration to the Special Olympics.
3. At checkout, each participant has the option to donate to our charity partner by checking the additional donations box.
We typically raise between $15,000-25,000 for our charity partners.
I would like to run the color me rad 5k because I am turning 40 ! On October 27.. π
I have not run much in the past few years due to having children and focusing on them, but this year I am focusing on myself!! The kids and husband will be doing it with me… We are pretty psyched!!
I just started running I am so excited!!! This will be my first 5K, the reason I am running is for my son Hayden:)!! He is 9 years old and has Down Syndrome so I’m running for him:) TEAM HAYDEN!!!!
I’m an avid runner and recently my kids have joined a local running club. It has become a family affair! We’d love to participate and support this great cause.
I have just gotten into running.. But a little over three years ago I had my 3rd child and he was born with Special Needs.. Shortly before his third birthday I was having a hard time lifting him and carrying him from place to place.. So I decided I needed to get myself into shape for him, so over the last couple of months I have ran a few 5K’s and also started running at nights.. It has been wonderful for me. I realized it may have started for him, but I really needed to do it for myself as well. So every race I wear my “Seth is Rad” shirt so that I can remember why I push myself everyday!!
