2nd Annual Brewgaloo Local Beer Fest Saturday April 27th in Raleigh

Shop Local Raleigh  presents their second annual Brewgaloo local beer festival on Saturday April 27th (3-9pm) in downtown Raleigh’s City Plaza. Brewgaloo 2013 will feature 25 craft breweries from North Carolina including several favorites from right here in the Triangle.  There will also be 14 local food trucks on hand to feed the hungry crowd and live music  provided on two stage from 8 different local bands.

General admission is free and includes a pint glass (special unbreakable acrylic souvenir glasses will be available while supplies last). Beer is sold by the pint or by the taste. 1 token= 1 pint; 1 token= a taster card with 5 samples available.

This event supports Shop Local Raleigh and its mission to sustain programs that strengthen our local businesses.

Durham at Duke’s Spring Arts Festival
Join the Duke University Union Visual Arts Committee to celebrate the unveiling of the new Arts Annex mural at the Spring Arts Festival. Everyone is invited to come out for the festival, an art-filled afternoon of live jazz, food trucks (Parlez-Vous Crepe, Loyo and Baguettaboutit), Dtown Market vendors, arts and crafts led by Happymess Studios, and see the new Arts Annex mural.

Flora & Food Truch Festival at Fairview Garden
Residents in Western Wake County now have the opportunity to experience the gourmet food truck revolution that has taken Durham, RTP and downtown Raleigh by storm. We have teamed up with several of the most popular gourmet food trucks of the Triangle to offer the first-ever “Flora and Food Trucks Series”.  The kick off event will be Saturday, March 30.  Our store hours are 9 am-6 pm.  Food Trucks will be serving up their delicacies from 11…:30 am – 2:30 pm.  Food Trucks participating in our kick-off event are: Chirba Chirba, Deli-icious, Only Burger, Porchetta, Sweet Stacey Cakes.

Designers Uptown Market
An open air market filled with handcrafted goods.The Designers Uptown Market features fine locally made arts and crafts with an outdoor big city feel.  Vendors showcase some of the finest handcrafted arts and crafts in the area: jewelry, pottery, apparel, stained glass, paper crafts.

Attention Golden Bull Hunters! Just can’t wait to get your hand on a bull? Join Bull City Burger & Brewery Saturday and they guarantee you will be able to get your hands on a Bull. Major Bull that is. The final chance to win a free burger/veggie burger, fries and drink every week for a year begins at 8:00 AM on Saturday (7:30 AM arrival). All you have to do is keep your hand on Major Bull longer than anyone else and you’ll be the winner of Golden Bull #5.  They still have several slots open, but are limiting this contest to 30 or so people. Go by the restaurant to sign up. Mint Julep Jazz Quintet at Beyu Cafe’
With their little big band lineup of 4 horns, rhythm section, and vocalist, the Mint Julep Jazz Band recreates the hot jazz sounds of the 1920′s, 1930′s, and early 1940′s through arrangements based on original recordings from the jazz age and swing era. Organized by the NCMA and Penland School of Crafts, this new art exhibit, which opens this Sunday, highlights a current trend in contemporary art: exploring the intersection of time and art by artists who employ innovative and experimental techniques.

We have another great weekend of events coming up in the Triangle. Below are my picks of things to check out this Friday-Sunday. The weather should be nice and warm for the Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day parade this year. I’ll be there playing with my band, the Bulltown Strutters. Other Suggestions

Some great local businesses have recently opened their doors in downtown Durham that should be on everyone’s list to check out.  If you are over in the Bull City this weekend stop in to Cocoa Cinnamon for a great latte, cup of coffee, or tea. I also recommend you check out the just opened brick and mortar location for Monuts Donuts. They make the best donuts ever! Both of these local businesses  have created incredible spaces for the community to enjoy.
