If you’re a voracious local foodie, a supporter of North Carolina’s sustainable agriculture or just enjoy good music and a cold beer, don’t miss the 8th Annual Pepper Festival this Sunday, September 27th, 2015 from 3-7pm at Briar Chapel Community Park in Chapel Hill.

The 2015 Pepper Festival challenges approximately 45 of the state’s top chefs to create one-of-a-kind recipes, from pepper chocolate to pepper vodka, using the locally grown and bred North Carolina pepper. The roster features culinary heavy hitters, such as Herons at The Umstead, The Fearrington Granary, TOPO, Harvest 18 and Gravy with craft brews from Carolina Brewery, Fullsteam, Crude Bitters, Yesteryears and more.

For the first time, the Pepper Festival will feature Pepperpalooza, kid-friendly activities to provide hands-on education about local agriculture. The schedule features creative workshops such as “Food Fonts,” a chance to play and write with food, and “The Insane Science of Fairyland,” a storytelling experience that combines science with fairy-tale characters like the Big Bad Wolf. Festival goers can also enjoy artisan booths, acrobatic entertainment and music.

Rusted Roots Fall Junk Market in Hillsborough Sept. 19-20th

Rusted Roots

This is something I have had on my radar since earlier this summer. I’ve never been before, but I am really looking forward to checking out the Rusted Roots Fall Junk Market in Hillsborough later this month. The market features some of the best junkers, antique collectors, upcyclers, and vintage lovers around. Also to get a sense of the types of products vendors bring  you can check out the video above from one of the previous junk markets. I’m really looking forward to making the short trip to Hillsborough (under and hour from Raleigh) to check this out. I’m also looking forward to finally trying the ice cream from the Two Roosters ice cream truck. Below is the truck schedule for the weekend. Happy exploring!

Brew Coffee Bar Birthday Week!

Brew 1

It’s hard to believe, but as of this Tuesday Brew Coffee Bar in downtown Raleigh will have been open for a full year. Since opening their doors to the shop in downtown Raleigh’s Seaboard Station back on September 1, 2014, Brew has become a big part of the local coffee community and elevated the already awesome Triangle coffee culture. If you haven’t paid them a visit yet I highly recommend giving them a try. I’m a huge fan of their espresso drinks made with locally roasted Raleigh Coffee Company coffee. Their nitro cold brew coffee is another favorite of mine and if you visit them in the morning a breakfast taco is a must!

BrewBirthday

Brew is celebrating their 1st anniversary this week with daily specials and events running through Friday, culminating with a “First Friday Bash” featuring live music by Katelyn Read, Ice Cream from Two Roosters, donuts from Pig’s Ear, plus other vendors. Proceeds from the event benefit Help One Now. For more information about the specials this week and details about the “First Friday Bash” visit their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BrewDTR.
