Tickets are $45 for general admission, $75 for VIP (with 2 hours of early entry), and $15 for designated drivers. I enjoyed the VIP experience last year and think it is well worth the price. While this isn’t one of those festivals that gets ridiculously crowded it is still really nice to get in early and avoid the lines. Tickets can be purchased online at Beericana.com.

Mystery Brewing & Prodigal Farm Dinner at Washington Duke Inn ~ April 13th

Fairview Dining Room

Fairview Dining Room at Washington Duke Inn

A few months ago I attended a wonderful beer dinner at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, the premier luxury inn and golf club located on the campus of Duke University in Durham. April is North Carolina beer month and this week the Inn is hosting “The Brewer and The Farmer” dinner. This special dinner features another local favorite brewery of mine, Hillsborough’s Mystery Brewing Company and Rougemont’s Prodigal Farm, on Wednesday, April 13 at 6:45 p.m.

Beer and cheese enthusiasts alike are invited to join Executive Chef Jason Cunningham for a masterfully created multi-course menu incorporating decadent Prodigal cheeses paired with flavorful Mystery beers. Mystery Brewing Company will feature limited-time celebratory birthday brews, including Sancho (Belgian Singel), Orpheus (Belgian Dubbel),Mousqueton (Belgian Tripel) and Eurydice (Belgian Quad).

Mystery Founder and CEO Erik Lars Myers will join with Prodigal Co-Owner Kathryn Spann to guide guests through this extravaganza and share their expertise along the way. These dinners are a lot of fun and a great way to learn more about the thought process behind the different beers offered by the brewery and how they pair with different foods. Not to mention the Fairview Dining Room at the Washing Duke Inn is an amazing space to enjoy an evening of great food and craft beer.

The Brewer and the Farmer Dinner costs $65 per person, or $54 for Executive Club members. The event will take place on the Fairview Patio, weather permitting.

To make reservations, please call the Fairview Dining Room at (919) 493-6699 or visit the event registration page.

Five Places to Watch the Super Bowl

Panthers
There are a lot of great places around the Triangle to watch the Super Bowl and I’m sure some may have other picks, but I like the idea of watching it at a brewery surrounded by a big crowd and good beer. Below are my top five suggestions for catching the game this Sunday.

Neuse River Brewing Company (Raleigh)
Neuse River will host a Reggae Sunday pre-party with steel drums by Sensory Expressions from 3-5pm and Cousins Maine Lobster food truck from 3-8pm. Come game time watch the Panthers take on the Broncos via their 120″ projection screen (with sound). Beer special will be $4 Laila’s Midnight (a dark IPA).

Big Boss Brewing (Raleigh)
Big Boss will broadcast the game on two big screen tv’s at their new bar downstairs in the brewery including sound from large speakers. The game will also be on three tv’s in the upstairs bar area. Tons of beer on tap with wine available too. High Roller IPA will be on special for $3 and FREE PIZZA while it lasts.

White Street Brewing (Wake Forest)
White street will be showing the game on several big screen tv’s. Pizza Amore, located right around the corner is offering a Super Bowl special for brewery guest: Large cheese pizza and a dozen wings for $21.95.

Ponysaurus Brewing (Durham)
Taproom will have the game on all four flat screens. Pie Pushers are preparing a special Super Bowl menu including their famous pie slices, wings & more! The Pushers start serving at noon when the taproom opens. Super Bowl 50 begins at 6:30pm. Come grab a seat early!

Fullsteam Brewery (Durham)
Fullsteam will have the game up on their Big Screen and popular food truck American Meltdown will be there. During the game Fullsteam will have their famous chip and dip set up for snacking. Fullsteam giveaways every quarter. Preferred seating up front for those who bring their own camping/lawn chairs.

Places to get Buffalo Wings
If you are planning to stay home but want to order Buffalo Wings for your Super Bowl Party I recommend checking out Heavenly Buffaloes in Durham and Lynnwood Grill in Raleigh. Both are currently taking orders, but hurry. I think orders need to be in by Friday.
