Weekend Picks: April 3rd-5th

Untitled

This weekend is going to be absolutely beautiful! Here are some fun things to do this to get outside and enjoy the incredible weather. Remember, in addition to these fun events most of the local farmers’ markets start their regular hours this weekend. My two favorite local markets are the Durham Farmers’ Market and the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. Happy Exploring!

Friday April 3rd

Live Music at Gizmo Brew Works
April is NC Beer Month and there is no better way to celebrate than to visit a local brewery and catch some live music over a few beers. On Friday from 7-10pm enjoy Erin Mason perform soulful country and folk-pop and grab dinner from BO’s kitchen (Korean Street Food) food truck. https://www.facebook.com/GizmoBrewWorks

First Friday in Downtown Raleigh
First Friday is a free self-guided tour of downtown’s cutting edge cultural hot spots. Local art galleries, art studios, alternative art venues, and museums stay open late the first Friday of every month to welcome thousands of art-seeking enthusiasts downtown. I recommend stopping by Brushstroke Studio which will feature photos by Felicia Perry. The Baguettaboutit Food Truck will be parked at the studio and free beer from Nickelpoint Brewery will be available. 6-9pm. Other places to visit are the market that takes over Hargett Street in front of Raleigh Times and Brew Coffee Bar at Seaboard Station which will feature live music.

The Cedar Creek Gallery in Creedmoor, NC will host the 43rd Annual Spring Pottery and Glass Festival starting this weekend. The gallery will be open until 10pm Friday, April 1st for the opening of “A Woman’s Perspective: Sculpting the Feminine Form”. The festival continues Saturday and Sunday (April 2nd and 3rd, 9th and 10th) with live music, great craft demonstrations, open studios and the finest quality American craft for purchase.

The artists of Cedar Creek toil diligently all year to make new, exciting work. For their creativity to flow freely, they require solitude and focus in their studios. The festivals gives the atists an opportunity to open their pottery and glass blowing studios to share with the public.   The festival will also feature and Adult Egg Hunt on April 10th at 3om.  Adults (no kids allowed) will let their inner child out as they search for eggs corresponding to at least 25 beautiful glass and pottery treasures. Please check the schedule of events for specific times.

Cedar Creek Gallery History
Cedar Creek Gallery was formed by the late Sid Oakley, celebrated NC Potter and Artist, and his wife Pat Oakley in 1968 on what used to be an old tobacco field in Creedmoor, NC. The Gallery has grown from one building into over ten since then. Their daughter Lisa Oakley, also a celebrated artist in glassblowing/sculpting, has carried on the legacy and continues to present the works of over 200 artists and crafts-people. For more infomration about the gallery, driving directions, and information about the artists located there, visit their website.

The photograph above was taken by Marry Ann Potter. You can view more of her beautiful photos in her flickr photo album and on her blog This Country Life.
