Brew Coffee Bar Birthday Week!

Brew 1

It’s hard to believe, but as of this Tuesday Brew Coffee Bar in downtown Raleigh will have been open for a full year. Since opening their doors to the shop in downtown Raleigh’s Seaboard Station back on September 1, 2014, Brew has become a big part of the local coffee community and elevated the already awesome Triangle coffee culture. If you haven’t paid them a visit yet I highly recommend giving them a try. I’m a huge fan of their espresso drinks made with locally roasted Raleigh Coffee Company coffee. Their nitro cold brew coffee is another favorite of mine and if you visit them in the morning a breakfast taco is a must!

Brew is celebrating their 1st anniversary this week with daily specials and events running through Friday, culminating with a “First Friday Bash” featuring live music by Katelyn Read, Ice Cream from Two Roosters, donuts from Pig’s Ear, plus other vendors. Proceeds from the event benefit Help One Now. For more information about the specials this week and details about the “First Friday Bash” visit their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BrewDTR.

Folsom 4

Update 7/7/2015: This event has been cancelled due to the extreme weather foretasted for tonight

There is some great music to be heard this week in Raleigh. The Johnny Folsom 4 (Johnny Cash Tribute Band) is scheduled to perform this Thursday at the Oak City 7 concert series and I’m pretty stoked about it. If you’ve never been to one of the shows at Oak City 7 here’s what you need to know. Oak City 7 is a FREE summer concert series located in City Plaza (at the end of Fayetteville Street) in downtown Raleigh. Admission is free to the public and the events take place from 5:00pm to 10:30pm (rain or shine) every other Thursday, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

There are typically 3-4 bands with openers starting around 6pm and the headlining act at 9pm. Local craft beer is available for purchase and there are usually several great local food trucks. The event is pet friendly (dogs must be on a leash). You can bring a chair to relax, but there is also plenty of room for dancing.

Picture of the Week: Rainbow of Colors in Raleigh

Sometimes I bring my camera with me when I go running in case I stumble upon anything interesting. Two weeks ago I switched up my morning run and followed a new route through downtown that took me along Oakwood Avenue. When I came across this row of colorful “shotgun” style houses across the street from the Oak Cemetery I just had to stop and snap a picture.

Based on my research online these homes were all built sometime around 1930 and were most recently renovated around 2009-2010. They were recognized by the Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Community Appearance in 2010 for “outstanding new contributions to the character, environment and appearance of the City of Raleigh. If you are into unique architecture and older styles of homes I encourage you to get out and explore Oakwood and surrounding fringe neighborhoods.

Summer Music Update

The Jason Adamo Band at Midtown Music Fest

Over the weekend I attended the Midtown Music Fest in North Hills. It was a great music event featuring three bands (The Jason Adamo Band, Four Founders, American Aquarium) and local beer from Big Boss Brewing. Best of all the event was FREE. Now that summer concert season is upon I thought now would be a good time to share my updated list of upcoming free and low cost summer music in the Triangle. Check out the event websites below for additional details. Hope you have a great summer filled with music!
