Weekend Picks: February 17th – 19th

Big Boss Run Club is this Sunday at Noon

It looks like it is going to be another mild weekend in the Triangle. Make the most of it and get out and try something new! Here are my weekend picks:

Friday

North Street Beer Station – Music by The Live Oaks
On Friday night at 8pm you can catch some great live music by The Live Oaks in downtown Raleigh at the North Street Beer Station. The Live Oaks are an acoustic duo from Raleigh whose sound incorporates Americana, indie folk, classic rock, country and southern roots music. There will also be a “tap takeover” that night by Wooden Robot Brewery out of Charlotte starting at 6pm.

The Bullpen Beer Garden – Music with Thomas Rhyant
The Bullpen is a relatively new taproom and chicken wing spot Durham that regulary hosts music acts. This Friday gospel singer Thomas Rhyant and his 3 piece band give the history and the music of the legendary Sam Cooke. Rhyant often sings gospel from Cooke’s days with the Highway QCs and the Soul Stirrers and from the R&B and Soul days.

Saturday

Black Twig Cider House – Cider and Cheese Pairing
On Saturday at 4pm Black Twig Cider House in Durham will host a cider and Ccheese pairing class featuring 5 cheeses and 4 cider tastings. Guest will learn about the cheeses and cider individually and then why they are paired together. Special guests include Ali Morgan, a Certified Cheese Professional and Ted Domville of Elodie Farms. The class will last about an hour. The cost is $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased here.

Sunday

Big Boss Run Club
During the winter months the Big Boss Run Club meets at the brewery in Raleigh each week on Sunday at Noon. All runners are welcome for a group run. Choose any distance you like (most popular is the 3 mile route). Afterwards enjoy runners grab beers from the taproom where there is always a $3 special and enjoy food from a local food truck.
