Well lace up your running shoes for Ella’s Race on Saturday March 21, 2015 hosted by Chick-fil-A Capital Crossing and Falls Village in North Raleigh. The race will benefit The Cure Starts Now and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to help pediatric research, aid, and support efforts for children with brain cancer & tumors.

The 10K and 5K races will include:

The 10K and 5K Race time is 8am. The 1 mile fun walk is at 9:30am. The course will take you through some of the nearby neighborhoods in beautiful North Raleigh. Directly beside the finish line of the race will be a FREE Family FunZone for children under 12 years of age. The Family FunZone will be open from 7:00-10:00AM on event day and will be filled with free activities and inflatables!

Ella’s Story
Ella was diagnosed April 29, 2008 with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. This is a rare, aggressive, non-operable tumor located in the pons area of the brainstem. The prognosis for this type of tumor is extremely grim. There is no cure, no known effective treatment except for radiation-which, for some, provides only temporary relief of the symptoms. Ella lost her brave battle on Wednesday, February 8th while at home with her family.

How can you help
Run. Donate. Support. Proceeds of the Chick-fil-A Connect Race Series of Raleigh help organizations fight for children like Ella. Ella’s supporters believe in the work that The Cure Starts Now and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation do. They are partnering to make this race a reality and to save children diagnosed with cancer and brain tumors.

Durham Mardi Gras Celebration Tuesday February 17th!

DM 2014

One of my favorite events is coming up next week! The 2015 Durham Mardi Gras Celebration will be held next Tuesday February 17th! The parade departs the plaza at 201 Corcoran St (by the bull statue) at 7pm and follows a short route along Foster Street down to Geer Street. A printable version of the route can be viewed here. The parade will be preceded by an opening ceremony at 6:45pm when The League of the Tutu will adorn Major the Bull in his very own tutu.

This year event organizers are expanding the party by finishing the parade with an outdoor block party. They have added entertainment and activities on the closed section of Rigsbee Ave between Corporation and Geer Street. Paperhand Puppet Intervention will also be there to drum up some fun and folks are invited to jam in the streets.

On the First Friday of the month local artists are featured at galleries throughout Downtown Raleigh. The art alone is more than enough reason to come out, but if you need a little nudge out the door the amazing Chirba Chirba Dumpling Food Truck will also be parked at the gallery this Friday selling their famous dumplings. To help wash it down free beer is being provided by Raleigh’s own Nickelpoint Brewing Company. In addition to all this there will be a special giveaway by Midtown Grille. Brushstroke Studio is easy to get to from Peace Street and with free parking available in their lot. The gallery is also easily accessible via the R Line, stop R4 West Street. Hope to see you there!
