Picture of the Week – Boulted Bread!

Boulted Bread – Coming Soon!

This week’s photo captures a new Triangle bakery is in the works. Boulted Bread is in the process of renovating a site located at 614 W. South Street in downtown Raleigh. This is over by the historic Boylan Heights neighborhood. Note the “Bread” sign on the left. The pictures of their test batches of bread on their facebook page look amazing. I’m really looking forward to their opening and will plan to do a full post once they open for business later this summer. In the meantime you can follow them using the links below for updates and pictures of their great looking bread!

6th Annual Cuegrass Festival at The Pit BBQ ~ April 26th

DSC04795

The 6th Annual ‘Cuegrass Festival returns to the Warehouse district in downtown Raleigh on Saturday April 26th 12-6pm. In past years a nice crowd has gathered along Davie street outside The Pit BBQ for the jam-packed day of great ‘cue, local brews and toe-tappin’ bluegrass music! It only costs $5 at the gate to enter (food & beer additional). Proceeds from the $5 gate donation Backpack Buddies & the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC.

This event is a great way to spend the afternoon outside enjoying great music. Make sure you bring a chair and get there early to grab a good spot as it does get crowded. I also highly recommend a hat and suncreen as there is limited shade. Musical acts planned for this year’s event are Old Habits, The Barefoot Movement, Acoustic Manner, Grits & Soul, and The 23 String Band

The Pit will have the pig cookers fired up to serve plenty of their famous Eastern North Carolina-style barbecue and offer a selection of local brews. This year’s event will feature Aviator, Big Boss, Carolina Brewery, Lonerider, Triangle and White Street. This is one of my favorite spring events in downtown Raleigh. Definitely worth checking out. Enjoy!

There will also be 30 local food trucks on hand to feed the hungry crowd and live music  provided on two stage from 11 different local bands.

General admission is free and includes a pint glass (special unbreakable acrylic souvenir glasses will be available while supplies last). Beer is sold by the pint or by the taste. 1 token= 1 pint; 1 token= a taster card with 5 samples available.

This event supports Shop Local Raleigh and its mission to sustain programs that strengthen our local businesses.

As with any event, I always recommend getting there early to beat the crowds. It is also smart to utilize public transportation like the free R-Line and have a designated driver. Enjoy NC Beer Month!

O2 Fitness Supports Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo 2014 Season

Untitled

As you may have read earlier this week, the organizers of the upcoming 2014 Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo season were working to raise the funds needed to produce this year’s events via a Kickstarter campaign. As of yesterday they were still short of the funding goal. That’s when O2 Fitness stepped in and offered to make up the difference to ensure this great community event is able to go off without a hitch.

“We always do what we can to support our local communities, including events like the Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo – a fantastic event that gives people from around the Triangle and beyond a chance to enjoy our beautiful downtown,” said Michael D. Olander, Jr., CEO of O2 Fitness Clubs. “We’re happy to play a part in the success of this year’s event and look forward to chowing down on some great food along with the rest of the attendees!”

The Raleigh Food Truck Rodeos are scheduled for the following dates:

  • Sunday, May 4th, 2014
  • Sunday, June 8, 2014
  • Sunday, August 10, 2014
  • Sunday, October 12, 2014

Between Shape Up Downtown & the Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeos there is a lot to look forward to downtown the next few months! Happy exploring!

Picture of the Week – Wafflegato!

Untitled

Jubala’s Wafflegato

Earlier this week I shared a post about Jubala Village Coffee celebrating their birthday by offering some special menu items this week. I made good on my promise and stopped by this morning for the famous Wafflegato. This is a shot of espresso poured over a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a small wedge of waffle added to the mix. It is a delicious treat and it is my picture of the week! They will be serving this Tuesday only as part of their “Re-tweet” Tuesday special!
